Other hockey leagues

I don't follow just hockey news in the NHL, I also happen to enjoy plenty of other hockey action! I sometimes will check out the scores and stats from the Slovak Extraleague. It is the pro equivalent of the NHL in Slovakia. Why do I follow that? Well, my grandparents are from there and I am really proud of my ancestral ties to that country.

The two favorite teams in the Extraleauge are the two biggest spenders for salaries and are usually good from year to year. HC Kosice is from where my dad's side of the family is from and just played their first season in their new arena home in U.S. Steel Arena. (yes, built by the same American company based in Pittsburgh.) The next big team is from HC Slovan Bratislava. They use a real cool looking jersey that mimics the Penguins jersey from the 1990's, but instead of a Penguin, they have a real distinguished eagle head.

Go do a Google search for Slovak hockey league and check 'em all out.
