Cancer continues to ravage humanity and no more tragic when it is discovered among children. It's never a happy news story once the words "pediatric cancer" appear. There's nothing truly uplifting when the cold reality of young children suffering with the human frailties of disease. But when the news story introduces people willing to make the effort by collecting funding or awareness, it's a good thing.

The social issue awareness wing of the NHL has been given an award to recognize the devoted collective efforts of "Hockey Fights Cancer" program. Hockey Fights Cancer Gets U.S. Political Recognition

Hockey Fights Cancer has been given the additional recognition by the United States congressional caucus by declaring "National Hockey Fights Cancer Day" on Congressional Hill. Some US. Congressmen will wear the NHL branded necktie in support of the Hockey Fights Cancer campaign.
Senator Kerry will be joined by Congressional Hockey Caucus members in wearing the 2011 commemorative Hockey Fights Cancer tie. Participating Members of Congress include Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Rep. Brian Higgins (D-NY), Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-PA), Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE).
The mainstream recognition of the NHL and their charitable efforts is a strong signal to me that the NHL is fighting back it's reputation in the US as a mediocre national interest.
