Hockey Fans Against The Trap

This post is going to be dedicated to the Hockey Humorist over at his blog. He isnt a Blogathoner tonight, but he does talk about in his recent post about how boring the New Jersey Devils are. And I think that perhaps the hockey faction of the blogisphere should soon get together and have a blogathon to eliminate the trap defense used by the Devils.

Here is the Hockey Humorist in his words explaining why the trap is really no good.
The biggest problem that I have with the Trap and its variations, aside from them being so desperately dull to watch, is that they are a deliberate attempt to circumvent the “spirit of the game”. Hockey is supposed to be a game of speed, skill and physicality that maintains an enjoyable flow of action. The Trap and its variations, although technically legal strategies, greatly reduce speed and skill, and almost completely eliminates the flow of action – thus leading to the descriptions listed above in the second paragraph. The closest equivalent of it in basketball would be the Four Corners Offense – always a fan favorite.
I hope this helps explain the hidden goof at the Devils in my blog video post. I hope that helps some of the non-hockey fans as well who may be joining me tonight in my blogging efforts. Feel free to ask questions. I would be glad to answer them in a blog post.

I do enjoy watching some of the Devils players, though. Zack Parise is going to be a real well-known veteran for years to come in the league. Also, their goaltender Martin Brodeur is a first ballot Hall of Famer.
