Here is a good book that I would personally recommend because I would hope that the sport of hockey grows. In Pittsburgh, the best player currently is young Sid Crosby and a book written about his rookie season was a gift to me last Christmas. The book is also relevant because it was written by a Toronto Star beat reporter assigned to follow Sid Crosby around. He was going to help save hockey in not only Pittsburgh, but America as well. Can you imagine the constant pressure of the media having turned their attention on him for 82 games? Plus, it was the first season played after the nasty NHL player lockout wiped out an entire season.
But of course, Sid handled things with his own "aw shucks" boyish charm and appeal and experienced a rookie season like no other. He became the youngest professional athlete to lead the league in scoring at 18 years of age.
